Free Base64 Encode & Decode

Encode or decode Base64 for text and files entirely in your browser. UTF-8 for CJK and emoji, URL-safe option, share links that never expire. Nothing is uploaded.

🔒 Runs entirely in your browser · Nothing uploaded or saved · Share links never expire · Free, no sign-up

RFC 4648 §5: -_ instead of +/, padding stripped · Base64 is encoding, not encryption. Anyone with the string can decode it.

Input0 characters
Output

The link contains your text input after the #. Anyone with the link can read it. Browsers never send that part to a server. Binary files are not shared this way.

⚠️ Anyone who has the link can read the text in it. Do not put passwords or personal data in a share link.

How to encode & decode Base64

1
Choose Encode or Decode

Pick a mode. Nothing is uploaded — everything stays on your device.

2
Paste text or pick a file

Type text, or encode/decode a local file. UTF-8 handles CJK and emoji.

3
Toggle URL-safe if needed

Use RFC 4648 §5 (-_) when Base64 will sit in a URL or filename.

4
Copy, download or share

Copy output, download decoded bytes, or share a text link that never expires.

A Base64 tool that keeps your data on your device

BaselY encodes and decodes Base64 with the browser’s built-in APIs and UTF-8 TextEncoder/TextDecoder, so Chinese, emoji and other Unicode round-trip correctly. Your text and files never leave your device. When you share, only the text input (plus mode and URL-safe option) is packed into the link after the # — browsers never send that part to servers, so there is no database and the link never expires. Large file bytes are never put into share links.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my text or file uploaded anywhere?
No. BaselY encodes and decodes Base64 entirely in your browser. Your text and files never leave your device; nothing is sent to ToolBookly or saved on a server.
Is Base64 encryption?
No. Base64 is encoding, not encryption. Anyone who has the Base64 string can decode it back to the original bytes. Do not use BaselY to hide secrets — use real encryption if you need confidentiality.
What is URL-safe Base64?
Standard Base64 uses + and / which can break in URLs or filenames. URL-safe Base64 (RFC 4648 §5) uses - and _ instead, and often omits = padding. Toggle URL-safe when you need to put Base64 in a query string or path.
How do share links work without a server?
Your text input (and options) are compressed and placed in the link after the # sign. Browsers never send that part of a URL to a server, so whoever opens the link decodes it on their own device. Large binary files are not put into share links — share text payloads only.
Do BaselY share links expire?
No. Everything lives in the link itself, so it keeps working for as long as the link exists. Very long text makes long links, so trim before sharing if needed.
Does BaselY handle Chinese, emoji and other Unicode?
Yes. Text is encoded as UTF-8 before Base64, so CJK characters, emoji and accented Latin round-trip correctly.
Is BaselY free?
Yes. Free, no sign-up, no usage limits. It is part of the ToolBookly suite of browser tools.
